Alexandria Central Rotary Club

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Alexandria Central!

We’re a new Rotary club with strong Rotary roots.  Our members include experienced Rotarians as well as those who are new to Rotary.  We come from many different walks of life and we come together as Rotarians.

Rotary sums it up best this way:  Rotary is a place where leaders come together to meet and exchange ideas, and take action, to make a difference, in their communities and in the world.

We’re located in Alexandria, Virginia, a city with a great sense of community, historic ambiance and a modern vibe.

If you’re Alexandria-centered and you’d like to be part of a group that has fun while making a difference, then you’ll want to find out more about Rotary and about our Rotary club.

Why I'm A Rotarian

Good evening everyone!
On Wednesday, November 28, 2018 the Rotary Club of Alexandria Central met at Glory Days in the Alexandria Commons Shopping center at 6:30PM. The meeting was called to order by Club President John J. Renner. We started out by identifying what upcoming date we want to host our Club Membership Drive. We decided that the best date would be on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 6:30PM. The event will take place at the Glory Days Restaurant in the Alexandria Commons Shopping Center. Following the membership drive discussion Club Secretary, Joan M. Renner, updated the club on the status of Rotary International District assistance with obtaining a Club Banner, Bell, Four Way Test Banner, Name Tags, and several other items necessary for the club. Our District Governor announced that we will receive the necessary funding to obtain the above club items. As a club we voted on the production of the retractable club banners. After this Club Member Lacy Parker suggested that our club invite police officers from Alexandria and Arlington City Police Departments to come and present on what they do for our communities. We then opened up the floor to Paul Kentes to give a report on the March 8, 2019 Sips for Saints fundraiser that he is chairing. In his presentation he talked about the completion of the events webpage, approaching potential business and restaurant sponsors, assigned several responsibilities to club members and event marketing. We concluded our meeting by circling back to the member engagement discussion and we identified many avenues for our club to engage our community by giving back. Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, 6:30PM, at Glory Days in Alexandria Commons Shopping Center. The club meeting will be led by Joan M. Renner. If you are interested in learning more about what our club is about please take some time to come by and visit us. We look forward to meeting new members of our community.

District Governor Welcomes Alexandria Central

On Wednesday, October 17, the Rotary Club of Alexandria Central held its First Charter Night and New Club Member Celebration, welcoming 18 charter members, including 13 new Rotarians. Club President, John Renner, thanked 7610 District Governor, Glenn Yarborough, and Past District Governor Tin Tin Raschid for their guidance, encouragement and support in helping to get the Club chartered by Rotary International, and recognized Vice President, George Valenzuela, for his energy and support in helping to get the Club started. Also attending were PDG Janet Brown, District Polio Plus Chair, Felton Page, Assistant to the District Governor, Jim Holcombe, and District Governor Elect, Jonathan Lucus. All enjoyed great food by Glory Days Grill.

“Our goals are to come together, have good fellowship, do good work in our community and in the world, and do it as Rotarians” said President Renner. The Club has already participated in two community projects, has connected with NVCC to organize a Rotaract Club, and is planning a St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser in March, Sips for Saints, as well as its premier community event in September, Crabs N Suds. In addition to Vice President Valenzuela, Renner also recognized his fellow charter board members, Secretary Joan Renner, Treasurer Paul Kentes and Public Image Chair Sara Kentes.

The Rotary Club of Alexandria Central meets at Glory Days Grill, 3141 Duke Street in Alexandria from 6:30pm to 8pm Wednesdays.
