On Wednesday, October 17, the Rotary Club of Alexandria Central held its First Charter Night and New Club Member Celebration, welcoming 18 charter members, including 13 new Rotarians. Club President, John Renner, thanked 7610 District Governor, Glenn Yarborough, and Past District Governor Tin Tin Raschid for their guidance, encouragement and support in helping to get the Club chartered by Rotary International, and recognized Vice President, George Valenzuela, for his energy and support in helping to get the Club started. Also attending were PDG Janet Brown, District Polio Plus Chair, Felton Page, Assistant to the District Governor, Jim Holcombe, and District Governor Elect, Jonathan Lucus. All enjoyed great food by Glory Days Grill.
“Our goals are to come together, have good fellowship, do good work in our community and in the world, and do it as Rotarians” said President Renner. The Club has already participated in two community projects, has connected with NVCC to organize a Rotaract Club, and is planning a St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser in March, Sips for Saints, as well as its premier community event in September, Crabs N Suds. In addition to Vice President Valenzuela, Renner also recognized his fellow charter board members, Secretary Joan Renner, Treasurer Paul Kentes and Public Image Chair Sara Kentes.
The Rotary Club of Alexandria Central meets at Glory Days Grill, 3141 Duke Street in Alexandria from 6:30pm to 8pm Wednesdays.
